Peyton Manning

Well with the upcoming Superbowl eminent, the football ads have already started to pile up.

Of course as a football fan and an advertising major, I can't complain.

Peyton Manning continues to be my very favorite, current pro-football player. (What can I say, I'm still hoping he realizes the need for me to be his wife.)

His goofy attitude and willingness to make fun of himself have led him to, I'm certain, his position as one of the nation's most viable commercial stars.

Here are some of my favorite Manning ads. So some are a little old, but I still giggle.

Happy commercial watching this weekend ;)

Super Bowl :)

In light of the upcoming Super Bowl, I thought I'd share an article I found with some fun bowl facts: Cardinals and Steelers Once One Team.

I'm getting quite excited for the game myself. Saturday I'll be Tampa-bound for the NFL Experience. Go Steelers!

History in the Making

It's hard to believe that in my lifetime I've witnessed some America's most prolific historical moments. Times like 9/11 and even the Clinton scandals are pieces of our history-as Americans- that will grace the pages of history forever. So today, I have to say that I am proud to have witnessed the inauguration of now President Barrack Obama.

While in a new client meeting at my internship, I was quite awestruck by the crowds that mounted the grounds all over Washington when we turned on the news. Dare I even breathed, swallowed, or blinked while watching might I break the palpable air of hope that filled the room.

How do you define your 'ness?

As a PR major, I'm surprisingly horrible at "About Me" sections. Maybe it's that constant nagging feeling that I have to be liked by everyone, thus I need to censor what I say or maybe, even scarier, I don't yet truly know who I am. Ask me to brand your company and I'll happily scurry away to my world of creative liberties and round table discussions, however when it comes to myself, where do I start?

In a PR class a couple semesters ago, we were asked to create a brand for ourselves. This "brand yourself" project was probably the hardest project I've had in my almost four years of college because when it comes to matters of the heart and mind, it's impossible to hide behind words or numbers. As a self-proclaimed nerd/dork, this project pushed me to come out of my shell so to speak. Obviously I couldn't research the Tylenol Crisis of the 80's and draft a well thought out research paper on crisis communications or some other defining PR case study. This introspective project forced me to look inside myself and figure out who I want to be and who I currently am. But, needless to say, I'm still working on that part.

The other day I was watching the movie You, Me and Dupree when I got to thinking about what Owen Wilson's character is actually talking about in the end. After a string of dead-end jobs, Dupree eventually writes an inspirational book on finding that inner 'ness. So it started me thinking, if someone asked me, what defines your 'ness (Ashley-ness), what would I say? I love so many things, but I still have so much trouble defining myself.

As the time approaches to enter the world of PR, one I love so dearly, I feel that now is the time to truly create my "brand." Now is the time to leave prior inhibitions aside and focus on finding myself. Who do I want to be today, tomorrow, and in 10 years? Will I ever be able to stop caring so much about how others perceive me and figure out how I perceive myself?

These, dear readers, are questions yet to be answered. But hopefully '09 will be my time to define.

Another dose of Monday's musings :)

I just can't believe that it's a new year! Tomorrow, I start my first day at my new internship and I could not be more excited. I just know that this semester will hold wonderful new things, but it is very surreal that I am finally entering the end of my college career. The time is quickly approaching to pack away the memories and open a new chapter in my life. As a person that tends to always romanticize taking the next step in life, I'm really excited. But, it is also the very first time in my life that I do not know exactly where I'll be in 6 months. AH!

But all fears and excitement aside, I am trying very hard to start this new year with a very clean slate. The past month- or few months rather- I have been doing a lot of soul searching. It's been difficult but I finally came to the realization that Shakespeare had it right when he penned the adage "To thine own self be true." Ultimately, love isn't about finding someone that you have things in common with or, more importantly, finding some that "completes" you. I've realized that love is finding someone that compliments you, someone that loves you for you. And sometimes people come into your life for a reason, but it may not be the reason you expected. So this year, I'm going to strive to be the very best that I can be and hopefully that will take me where I belong.

As the great Carrie Bradshaw put it:
"But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous."

For auld lang syne, my dear

Generally, New Year's Eve is not a huge holiday for me. I tend to be a little weary of the events on this evening, what with all the drinking and driving warnings out there. Usually I spend it with the fam, doing some fireworks in the driveway or whatnot, but this year I decided to mix it up a little.

Thankfully, living in Orlando nearly guarantees that one friend or another will work for Disney and thus open the doors to endless free Disney days. So this year, I made my way out to Celebration, to visit a newly employed Disney associate and bff.

We enjoyed the evening traveling around the world-aka Epcot. It was so much fun, albeit a little packed. Each country shot off their own fireworks at midnight after a special countdown. And we could even see Magic Kingdom's fireworks too!
